It’s so the water doesn’t get all crunched up in shipping
Pringles has far fewer crushed chips and half the can isn’t full of air. They also sit better on a shelf. Maybe Lays should check out the competition. Ahh, but then the packing would make the product look smaller. 😔
Lays has Stax…
Without that air cushion your chips get smashed into a million pieces
Also that air is mostly nitrogen gas to keep the chips fresh for longer.
It’s not the nitrogen that keeps them fresh, it’s the lack of oxygen. So that aspect doesn’t affect how much “air” is in a bag.
Technically, all air is mostly nitrogen gas.
Yes, but the air inside chip bags is even more mostlier nitrogen gas
And even lesslier oxygen.
Turns out oxygen is actually really bad to have around.
100% of humans exposed to oxygen died shortly thereafter (on a cosmic timescale)
It’s actually quite corrosive. It tends to oxidize things.
Taking into account diffusion through the bag, ow long is that true?
Nobody is arguing it doesn’t need air. (or nitrogen)
Those chips definitely do not need as much air as Lays is giving them. They could easily fill the bag to 80% and still have uncrunched chips, instead of the 50% they have now.
They just lower the contents while keeping the price the same to maximize profits. But most people don’t notice because the bag is just filled with more nitrogen.
I see you’re paid off by Big Chip
Big chip. Chippys mittens. Wait

Do people who argue, that a bag of chips is mostly air, also think, that more soda cans would fit on a shelf if the fans were cubical?
Probable. People are quite dumb. Anyone that works with the public can attest to that.
Oh so thats why every other chips brand also fills their bags with air/gas /s
Okay, but they could still add more than one chip per bag.
I’m still surprised that people bought that bullshit of a reason
In the rest of the world, we have air cushions too in our chip bags.
They don’t need to be 75% of the volume to work.
Tangential, I got a new stuck off deodorant last week and it’s like half hollow. Fuck you Unilever.
The water just settled.
- Lays, probably
The glass is oversized.
I will argue that the glass being half empty can be an optimistic view. The empty space is an opportunity to fill the glass with something of my choice. For example I could fill the remaining half with orange juice concentrate to now have a full glass of orange juice.
looks nervous well, you see… ummmm… if we put more water in it, it would splash out and ruin the product
No you are wrong for lays to consider glass as full water has to be visible through microscope
