I’m seeing lots of reports on this for rule #2, and while I think this sort of commentary is obviously the basis of a lot of political bickering, I’m not sure if the framing in the meme itself is wholly political.
I might be way off base making a judgement call here, but I’m going to leave this one be.

3·1 year agoSometimes people want a breather, myself included. If there weren’t so many other places to browse that kind of content, we wouldn’t have the rule.
The population on Lemmy is very politically aware and has strong opinions, which is good, however that also means that it’s very easy for any community to become overwhelmed by it and suddenly have little else.

1·2 years agoWhat’s that old quote? “A lie can make it around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes”, or something like that? I believe that was pre-internet too.
It also happens with politics. I constantly see provocative headlines get lots of attention in one circle, and then the later corrections only get passed around in the opposite circle, if at all.

In other words, they can’t distinguish bots vs humans for advertising revenue, so they’re going to sacrifice everyone’s anonymity and hope not enough people care.
