The Senate unanimously moved to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and part of Customs and Border Protection, in a rare overnight session.
The agreement would fund other DHS components, such as the Transportation Security Administration and US Coast Guard, but the House will still need to act before funded agencies within the department can reopen.
The move is meant to alleviate long lines at airports, while lawmakers continue to debate possible reforms to immigration enforcement by DHS.
house repbulicans blocked it already.
Wow I’m shocked the Dems held their ground this time. Good job! Gold star today.
Now try not to fuck it up.
It sounds to me like they didn’t get nearly what they wanted. None of the restrictions or guardrails on ICE or border patrols were even considered and ICE is already funded for a good long while without this.
I guess at this point my bar is so low I was expecting an ice or border patrol funding anyway.
So I dunno man I just want my hollow victory.
Yey! Here’s to y’all who like me are poorly informed citizen bystanders! We won! We wanted to win n we won! Yey! We’re winners!
Just let me know how hollow? Too much so far? A couple of YMCA dance moves perhaps? A little hurra hoop hoop?
How did they hold their ground? They gave up their only bargaining chip in exchange for absolutely nothing meaningful.
From what I’m hearing, MAGA is saying that, and they are fucking PISSED. They are in the exact position that Dems were in last Fall when the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries lost that game of chicken that they were easily winning. They knew if they screwed up again, they’d be hanging off a bridge over the Potomac.
Both of those losers still need to go ASAP.
“unanimously”
The vote was held at 02:20…
Considering the age of the average senator, I really want to see the actual votes and how many were even there.
Sweet a manufactured solution to a manufactured crisis from a manufactured solution to a former manufactured crisis
Let’s see what come out of conference
