Nothing is more American than the Opossum! They only reside in North America.
I love this and yet sadly when it comes down to who is best at playing dead in response to threats, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries clearly take gold medals, so I think that muddles it a bit if you are trying to make a new party.

The worst thing about opossums is having a wild animal that you can almost trip over. Their thing about staying completely still rather than running away.
I vote no parties at all after the collapse; possum or otherwise.
Why can’t we all be possums? Just one party with 30 separate primaries resulting in 22 candidates that have to eat ticks an lay still in the middle of a busy highway. If you survive and don’t get lime disease you get to move on to the lightning round… That’s the round where you have to get struck by lightning while sleeping in a tree.
