3·3 days agoThe first 12 episodes or so are well done monster of the week sci fi… Then buckle the fuck up! The world building, performances and storyline represents my favorite sci-fi show of all time
Btw, Dollhouse is a similar vibe and similar quality, but much less grand in its execution.
3·4 days agoWhy can’t we all be possums? Just one party with 30 separate primaries resulting in 22 candidates that have to eat ticks an lay still in the middle of a busy highway. If you survive and don’t get lime disease you get to move on to the lightning round… That’s the round where you have to get struck by lightning while sleeping in a tree.
A majority of human interaction is some form of manipulation. I think the question should be what degree the manipulation serves the manipulator versus the mark. For example, my wife compliments me for not looking like a total piece of shit. This both helps diminish tendencies in me she dislikes (helping her) and encourages me to not be a piece of shit, which given that my wife generally looks out for my best interests, helps me as well. From the opposite perspective, gaslighting is a form of manipulation that only benefits the manipulator… Hence why it’s frowned upon.
I was going to post spending time with my son… It’s nice seeing the other side of the equation.

131·21 days agoThat may be the case. But AOC is on record saying MTG is just acting out of rage due to the fact that Trump personally killed any chance of her becoming a Georgia senator. Apparently that was the straw that broke the camel’s back resulting in the current incarnation of MTG.
I don’t think your viewpoint is supported by history. It is common for marginalized communities to take on the code words of those who oppress them and turn them into their own. The hate mongers use those words in an attempt to “other” their targets and separate them from society. If society embraces those words, especially the communities that are affected by them, the hatemongers lose power.
If you are waiting on everybody to reach the same conclusions as you, you will die waiting. We all want to live in a perfect world. But perfect is different for each of us. So instead of fighting a losing battle with no real winner, look to how the community affected wants you to act. When we help others we should help them in the ways that they want, not the ways we think they should want.

I read rule five to apply to “how do you subscribe to an instance” or other Lemmy customer support type questions. That rule doesn’t prohibit op’s post in my opinion. But I’ll certainly stand corrected if a mod tells me otherwise… If so, that rule should be rewritten.

I will belittle anyone that put Donald Trump in office. And if you didn’t vote for Kamala Harris, you helped put Donald Trump in office. I and a lot of people on this platform knew exactly what we were in for with Donald Trump 2.0. But millions of people let perfect be the enemy of the good.
