News@lemmy.world•‘Grind the country to a halt’: Democrat urges national strike if Trump meddles in midterms
1·13 days agoPlease, go ahead and explain what kind of democracy you’d prefer to that one and how you’d get there by having a mob burning people.

1·13 days agoWhy don’t you get into politics to create laws against this so you can take those that are responsible to court and get them into prison then? That would seem a bit less unhinged than calling for a mob to burn people alive.

News@lemmy.world•‘Grind the country to a halt’: Democrat urges national strike if Trump meddles in midterms
2·13 days agoYou do know that by taking such a stance on politics and being active about it, you’re pretty much a politician yourself?
I mean, where do you draw the line? After you burned Bernie and aoc on the stake, each for being too much of a politician, who’s next? Anybody who’s willing to take political responsibility in any way? Anybody who ever had a public office? You’d burn the middle management of NASA next? Or do you need to have been voted for, do you’ll just kill anybody who ever participated in some stupid school board?
But yeah, whatever, you’re obviously unhinged and insane, so go ahead and keep agitating against people you consider not left enough. You know that there’s someone like you left of you doing the same thing about you, right?

11·13 days agoAaaaaand straight to “we should fight democracy”. Unbelievable.
“Damn fascists, killing people and destroying democracy! To protect people and democracy from them, let’s kill people and destroy democracy!”

21·13 days agoThe left: “yes, you got that right, we should totally kill people that support our cause but in the wrong way.”
Also the left: “why can’t we get people on board?”

42·13 days agoWe should do it but kill people that join that we do not deem worthy of supporting our cause
Nope, still not getting better.

105·13 days agoI’m absolutely not saying not to do anything about it, in fact we should do a general strike
So you’re saying it’s generally a good idea but because now some of the Dems support the idea, we should no longer publicly support that plan because it might legitimise people you don’t consider left enough?
And you think that makes your point… Better, somehow?

What a dumb take.

1·22 days agoWell, you know, the question was why that guns topic is so much more important than all the other atrocities going on. You see the relation in there? This idea of “I get there’s topic A, but why the fuck would that matter more than actually relevant topics B through ZZ?” Any relevant answer would thus have to establish some relation between A and any other topic and maybe generalise this relation a bit.
Your answer was “guns and v8 make dick hard”. More or less. Which is a not too elaborate but somewhat fair statement in itself, but, you know, kind of absolutely doesn’t answer my question. Alas, you missed the topic. Happens to the best. But don’t get all mad if you don’t get your upvote then, pal.

2·22 days agoAs I said,
I’m not from the US
so I act fully within my moral frame of reference to consider having that appended to a constitution as utterly insane.
But, you know, that Bill of Rights also includes amendments about e.g. requiring warrants to enter homes or due process and I guess there’s a whole bunch of laws about the stuff trump does I mentioned or didn’t mention above. But yeah, guns are obviously special or something.

21·22 days agoIf that’s the reason for guns and huge cars, then it’s one of the best takes I’ve ever seen for regulating the fuck out of both.
There are plenty of other ways to feel empowered, big boy. Go downhill mountain biking. Learn martial arts. Become a part time lumberjack. Whatever. But if you just need hobbies that make you pound your chest, there’s really no reason to pick those that kill people or the planet.

13·22 days agoI’m not from the US and only have a vague understanding of the dynamics on the other side of the pond. But damn would it be funny if of all the things he does this would be his downfall. Like, there’s a million reasons not to let that guy near any public office… The pedophilia, the ridicule of disabled people, the dementia, the dismantling of democracy and its institutions, the treatment of women, the lying, you know this list could go on forever. But now there’s this one thing he says that any other country on earth regards as a reasonable and sensible thing to enforce, which is “people shouldn’t be allowed to carry guns around all the time” and suddenly he has a problem with important voter demographics. Like… this is a problem now? Unlike… *wildly gesturing at everything*…?
was a German schoolteacher and a member of the Nazi Schutzstaffel (SS) who served in a mobile killing unit
“I wonder what I should do with my life… I already tried to mentor and help people find their way through life. Guess I could try genocide next.”
What the fuck.
What nonsense. The whole premise here was that people are being told something. If somebody’s repeatedly told that they’re probably a lunatic because of the .ml attached to their name they’ll know something’s up. This isn’t about not telling people, this is about treating people like they know what they’re doing and telling them. Otherwise we wouldn’t even have this discussion because I’d just have left.
But this is going nowhere. You say we can’t expect people to know the symbolism they surround themselves with, I say it’s bullshit. We’re going in circles. So, you do you, great. I’ll, however, assume that the next person I see wearing a swastika is, in fact, a lunatic moron, and not just a poor fella who unknowingly made a wrong pick in the thrift store.
You can always assume people do stuff knowingly. They usually tell you that they didn’t if they didn’t. That’s the whole idea about doing stuff: You’re responsible for your actions.

I fantasize about massive pristine convenience. Brilliant gold taps, virginal white marble, a seat carved from ebony, a cistern full of Chanel No. 5, and a flunky handing me pieces of raw silk toilet roll. But under the circumstances I’ll settle for anywhere.
