Yeah so now I’m wondering if jumpers stand a better chance of making this work, accidentally. If I had more time I’d look up all the specs and see where the wire maze lands!
That’s fair, and I’m sorry to hear that’s your situation. I find it incredibly unfair we live in a world mixed with infertility and unwanted pregnancies.
I agree on behalf of parents we should be careful about what we drop casually. It’s like the whole, “So when are you going to have kids?” question everyone gets from the previous generation. This stuff is coming from a good place, but I think in the future it’ll be avoided, and reflected upon as very crass.
One thing I’ll say is that as a parent who often fantasizes about the “other path”, there’s a catharsis in memes like this one. I want to live vicariously through adults without children. I know this may not help from where you’re coming from, but just stating it in the spirit of increased understanding.
Do any of these adapters actually do any signal processing / transformation? I always assumed they were simply wiring crossovers. But I guess when the number of pins change there has to be an IC in there somewhere?
My thought is that it’s devoid of nuance (part of what makes it funny) so therefore it’s shitty?

2·6 days agoThis is so great to hear. I’m already using Nextcloud with several of its apps including Talk (what’s with the spreed nomenclature anyway?)
I thought using Talk for this effort was just quick and dirty until I figure out Matrix, but you’ve helped reassure me it’s legit.

2·7 days agoOne of the things I heard Musk say was that it shouldn’t be possible for a non-profit to just be converted into for-profit. Have to agree with him on that.

27·7 days agoI’m in the process of getting this going in my lab. I appreciate these efforts to find alternatives.
That being said, can I get some opinions so I can pare down the list?
Would be great to have E2EE and audio. Video bonus. I don’t think I’ve got much in the way of preferences beyond that.
My latest leaning is hosting the Matrix protocol.
Also the only friends I have that would be willing to move off the easy corporate software are tech literate, so I have the option to distribute VPN confs and the like. Has anyone hosted chat over their own VPN, or does that just become a mess because STUN/TURN needs to be “free”?
(Sorry I’m still learning a lot here)

3·7 days agoInterac isn’t too bad right? I agree with you that sort of service should be public, but I heard (years ago) that Interac is non-profit.
Edit: I should have just checked before posting: “Interac and Acxsys were combined into a single for-profit organization, Interac Corporation, on 1 February 2018”
Still, talking to vendors, it sounds like the fees are quite low, and I try to pay debit when it’s a small business.
I think there’s two topics here. I think love with AI is possible.
Is it healthy? Plenty of human romantic relationships are unhealthy, but I would wager the AI ones are going to be much more likely to be unhealthy. Or at least they have a hard limit on fulfillment.
Anyway yeah…just like how easy access to any severity of porn is already over stimulating our brains, AI poses a risk of becoming “conversation porn”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there Fluoride in your water? Do you want it? English
7·12 days agoThe way a dentist explained it to me is that having it in the drinking water helps kids whose teeth are still developing and will integrate it directly into the tissue. After that, topical via toothpaste and in office treatments helps adults.
BUT take that with a grain of salt because (1) drinking water fluoride should have topical benefits too right? And (2) you should place more trust in organizations and bodies of research than a secondhand anecdote from a single dentist.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there Fluoride in your water? Do you want it? English
8·12 days agoCanada here. Not aware of any limitations advertised.
I can taste the variations in chlorine and iron content between cities and towns (pipe vs well water). I’m assuming that would overpower any fluoride taste if it’s even sensible.
Context? I feel like I’m behind on internet.

Don’t the unpaid loans get collected from the estate upon death, and the inheritors get whatever is left?
Still a tax dodge, but sounds like the wealth would reduce each generation?
I also still agree capital concentration is still occurring. Probably due to those loans getting used for excessive gains on the stock market. But those buys and sells would trigger capital gains tax.
Again not saying I’m ok with all this wealth concentration, just feels like a lot of nuance is missing here.
