THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•Already had his hands readyEnglish
3·2 days agoWith our own knees on our backs
No way their labor created more value than they extracted from the system. But that would be a like a free boost to GDP and prop up a larger job market benefiting citizens. No, the white man must be the victim here, i just need to figure out how…
The landlords are burning down houses on the other side of town with the renters trapped inside. Then they start doing the same in another neighborhood, then another in the city. When do you start thinking they’ll do the same to you regardless of the termites and rot?
Internal issues aren’t bigger. They’re more personally dangerous. You’re simply saying human life near you is more important than human life elsewhere. If absolutely nothing else, paying taxes makes it blood on Americans hands.
Given that the US is engaging in the wars it’s clear that not all Americans are fully aware. I mean there are still a ton of conservatives who are pro-Zionism.
That said i know the left is growing and stronger every day. I know there’s people trying to fix things. The people I’ve known who are most effective never considered the border when valuing the state’s actions.
Palestinians / Yemenis / Somalis / etc
I’m confused how supporting and engaging in genocide and bombing humans in multiple countries with unique circumstances is both a single issue separate to and less important than doing the same (without bombs) nearer to home.
I guess everyone has a different tolerance for blood on their hands…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you rather have hundreds of millions of dollars and be acutely aware of all the bad things going on, or a meager yet sustainable life and completely ignorant of everything.
2·7 days agoI don’t get the stipulation. Using it to help community and fix the system would be using it for my own interest. I would be doing that for myself because i selfishly want to live in a better world. Furthermore, that would require i don’t pay taxes so it’s kind of a liability unless it’s permanently locked away in investments.
Maybe i keep that money invested to back debt so i can borrow and give the banks money away. 🤷

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies are constant failures but we can't stop trying to make work?
3·8 days agoIteration isn’t a claim that the predecessor was a failure though, you iterate on the successes of the prior generation. It used to be that technology advanced so rapidly that the cutting edge became obsolete in a matter of a few years, but for that time it was a success.
I think there’s also an assumption of design philosophy here. One designer might put many generalized requirements into their design, then you get Google glasses, AI, NFTs and so on. This means everything is a failure because it couldn’t achieve the requirements. Others may pick a small set of very specific requirements, then you get the iPhone or a Toyota hilux. These are massive successes because they had cohesion in the idea and planned as to about compromise.

10·9 days agoI found some good stuff in the F2P demo/early access. Especially if you’re just looking for a few hours of fun. Every now and then you can find a release F2P title that’s not monetizing you. But without the marketing budget or polish they don’t take off in popularity.

When a few people lose the support of the community they’re just a few people, isolated, and a lot less scary than ice while being susceptible to the same community response.

Memes of Production@quokk.au•as you get older you'll become more conservative
10·12 days agoLearning and growth occur towards tribalism all the time. Rich people still freak out when other rich people face consequences. Since they can’t relate to the problems of the lower class they lose empathy over time. They turn to other well-off people because they can relate. Under capitalism having less empathy makes it easier to accrue wealth. So that’s likely to be more common.
The very plasticity of our brain is susceptible to the disease of wealth. They don’t need to always have been bad to explain it. Unexamined maybe but everyone’s brain is learning all the time.

It starts the second you take more than necessary for comfortable living and future planning.
Yeah I don’t mean every model, make, and year is good but almost every house has one here where it’s -15C 3mo of the year and often -20C and below.
Heat pumps work great and are super common to install on homes where winter temps drop well below that. They’re so efficient they’re worth it even if you use supplemental heat for the coldest part of the year.
Andor was indeed great
