politics @lemmy.world•Trump vows voter ID requirements for the midterms, 'whether approved by Congress or not'
10·7 days agoTo append to my other comment:
He has even less authority over midterms than he does over the presidential election. Which is to say none, but even indirectly, far less.
Even if there was a question of negation on state votes for congresspeople, it would not be, in any way shape or form, the executive’s prerogative. It would be each house of Congress itself. It’s like parliament vs the monarch.

33·7 days agoI don’t even understand the rhetoric on both sides here. If he puts out an EO about elections? Tough titties. Zero legal force. No court case or nothing needed. The federal executive does not have authority over state matters, full stop, end of, simpoo avv, innit, an’all, est fin, etc.
It would be like me issuing a declaration that everyone must suck my dick.

16·8 days agoHonestly, people are probably going to start using it much less once they put in ads on the the low and free tiers.
They’re realizing they can’t turn profit over expenses when the VC money dries up without jacking price.
Same shit different fad. Offshoring was all the rage until the demand meant they started charging more, the quality went down, and the reality of cross-timezone management became obvious. Cloud was all the rage until the prices went up from demand and also kept running into outages, and now some companies are “re-inhousing” their infrastructure.
Cant’ wait till they realize they also can’t deliver at regular clip with only half the workers. Wont’ be soon enough, alas.

Incidentally a UK paper a few years back called it “the cheapest british meal” and invited someone to send in a cheaper meal and they’d get an award. They got flooded and had to pick the winner at random.

Guess Salem gonna have to get those trial courts running again when this goes south
Well, large tech corporations often cut costs by falsely listing impossible to meet job descriptions and then use that to ask the government for an excuse to hire a foreign worker, who they will hire despite not meeting the job descriptions either, but is willing to work for a fraction of what the domestic worker can afford to live on.
So there is that
But that’s not the fault of those immigrants, who are just looking for a better opportunity; that’s on the corporations abusing a system that is supposed to improve the domestic economy by bringing in top talent to American industry, not by displacing domestic employees and depressing wages.
And uh, also, the conservative wing and the administration isn’t really upset about that at all, either.
