2·6 days agoEvery ~4 years. Latest vote was taken in 2024, and they voted to become a state. It’s been like this for four consecutive plebiscites, but even before, it was kind of a popular option.

1·6 days agoBut not lately. They’ve been voting for becoming a state since Obama iirc, and they’ve been systematically ignored by Democrat and Republican administrations.
I must add, independence movements are rarely allowed by the oppressor. So, they shouldn’t be bothered about what the USA will “let” them do, if they were inclined for independence, which, I repeat, is not the case with PR.

6·6 days agoYou should call White Americans “Euro Americans”, then. That may clarify things for this lost soul.

1·6 days agoI didn’t say it was a problem, on the contrary, I found it admirable.
They, contrary to all my hopes, want so bad to be a USA state, but it’s looking like they are too brown to be “Americans” or they are far from being a priority for the government. The Trump administration seems fixated with the idea of a 51st state in the north. But, hey, at least they are not being economically blocked since the 1960s.

73·6 days agoLemmy.ml, iirc, stopped being promoted a couple years ago because it’s kind of the experimental instance of Lemmy. The developers of this instance themselves shared the idea for new users is not to be here, and use other instances to free up a bit of the server resources, but older accounts like mine, well, we are still around.

26·6 days agoFellow tankie fascist here! Don’t try too hard to appeal to the fediverse, you know we have a mission to spread Marx’s word every waking hour to people that will probably have influence in the real world at Lemmy.world.

15·6 days agoWow, guys. I’m Mexican and not a fan of Bad Bunny at all, but you seem really out of the loop with this guy.
He is a Puerto Rican, and in that sense he is an American citizen, but Bad Bunny is a sovereignist that would very much prefer to be free from the USA. The song Ricky Martin sang during the SB halftime show is just beautiful (listen to the Tiny desk version!). The name of the song is “Lo que le pasó a Hawaii” (What happened to Hawaii) and the lyrics talk about a strong, deep feeling of belonging to the Puerto Rico island. He talks a lot about the simple life in there and some of their traditions. In the end, the song calls Puerto Ricans to hold their flag and don’t allow “them” to do to Puerto Rico what happened to Hawaii.
I was in awe to listen to at least some of these lines in the middle of the Super Bowl. Honestly, don’t even try to ask me about the rest of the show.

6·7 days agoHave you seen LLMs trying to play chess? They can move some pieces alright, but at some point it’s like they just decide to put their cat in the middle of the board. Now, true chess engines are playing at their own level, not even grandmasters can follow.
I know what a vegan is. It’s just I’m not a vegan myself to be going in-deep about their system of beliefs.

3·10 days agoHe looks like El jefe Diego during his kidnapping and regular Jefe Diego.
PS/Edit: El Jefe Diego is an absolute POS, so, I don’t feel that bad mocking at him.
I guess a vegan would see the point in that. Vegans are normal in my book, as in they are people. If they didn’t call themselves vegans, I wouldn’t call them any particular way as a noun. If I needed to describe them, I’d say, “they are people who only eat vegetables”.
I get it, though, it’s a discourse battle derived from their moral views and expected ethics. It’s just they don’t come across as very approachable.
So, some nonvegan people?
Edit: Also, that wasn’t the point. Vegans call themselves vegans, nobody is asking them to call others by any name, proper or improper, in vegans’ point of view.
I don’t go over my day calling people names. It’s not hard for me to call them as they want them to be called, and if I don’t know that, they are just people like me.
