Yep https://ngrok.com/ is not affiliated with Musk at all. Their ‘sponsorship’ is that they provide me with a VPN service for free which they normally charge $10 per month for. @[email protected]

The author has been set as a bot, too. That is a very old feature so it should show up everywhere.

2·2 days agoThe author makes some pretty strong claims about Mossad involvement.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_(protocol)#Beginning–2018
matrix was created by Amdocs in 2014 and it wasn’t until 3 years later that it spun off to a separate company.
Amdocs was founded in 1983 in Israel but since ~2000 has been a huge multinational and their current HQ is in USA. I was not able to find anything other than conspiracy blogs that link Amdocs with Mossad and in 2000 an FBI investigation turned up nothing - https://www.nytimes.com/2000/05/06/us/israeli-spy-inquiry-finds-nothing-officials-say.html
There has been a ton of water under the bridge since then so it’s probably just a normal soulless corp with no specific ideology or agenda other than money.

2·8 days agoYes with all the brain damage from Covid I’m pretty sure assistive tech for dementia will be huge huge huge in a few years. Definitely a deep well to draw from, that one.
I have the wireframes of an app sketched out but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

37·8 days agoThere’s an old lady I know who couldn’t use her phone for 3 days because "the screen had gone black”. It had gone flat and gotten stuck in ultra power saving mode which just displays the time. There is a small glyph in the top left which is a box with an arrow pointing out of it, which I knew was tappable and which means exit but she didn’t. To make things worse even if she had tapped it the confirmation dialog that appeared was just some red text that didn’t look like a button at all.
She had no chance. Was about to buy a new phone, thinking the battery was busted.
I showed her the phone settings area but she understood none of it. Why there is an ultra power saving mode, why it would automatically engage, why it’s a black screen, why that is an exit icon, etc.
After I fixed it she was very glad - the phone home screen background is a photo of her dog that died recently and she was very happy to be able to see it again. She doesn’t know how to access the gallery app so that’s the only way she can see the dog that she misses so much.
I think the only thing she can do with her phone is answer it when it rings and unlock it to look at the home screen.

3·10 days agoOh right, yeah, Wordpress does tend to use up an awful lot of storage - every image gets copied 5 or 6 times, in different sizes just incase you need that size. It’s nuts.
You don’t need to store those images in your server though, they can be uploaded to S3 (object storage) where it is 10x cheaper to store them and then you can have a cheaper VPS. This way the VPS only needs to have enough storage for your MySQL database.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/amazon-s3-and-cloudfront/
There are many providers of S3-compatible storage, you don’t need to use AWS. Cloudflare R2 is super cheap - https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/developer-platform/products/r2/ or Hetzner - https://www.hetzner.com/storage/object-storage/

1·11 days agoIf you notice a pattern - i.e. someone who posts abusive comments all the time - report their profile and I’ll look into banning them from piefed.social to save us all a lot of hassle.

When the characters are talking about something and say “oh this is like that time when…” and a flashback scene which is just copy and pasted from old footage is used. Then they do this 5 more times in the episode. So annoying and cheap.
