I’m watching Gladiator tonight for the first time in 20 years. It’s hardly new but so painful to watch again through the lens of the current state of America. It went from ominous historical warning 25 years ago of power, weakness and how men act in opportune moments to a primer on current affairs.

And why do they have to protect themselves? Is it because they are knowingly throwing the legal rights and process out the window and committing vigilante, racist, perverse genocidal philosophies out that are against the law?
If you have to wear a mask to hide from the public to “enforce laws”, you are always a bad actor. Not that they care.

The library of Alexandria, burns again.

Covers? Luxury.
When we was growing up it was a few moldy newspapers stuffed into a garbage bag.

They don’t need to be affordable, they will be subscribed to. What, poor, you don’t have the iRobot subscription?

Obama had the chance to appoint a SC justice and the right made a huge stink about him doing it in the last few months of his presidency after Trump was set to take over. Instead of doing it and understanding the significance, he/the Dems didn’t push and let Trump appoint Cavenough. Meanwhile Trump appointed all kinds of people to no resistance in the waning months of his first term. Curious that, almost like they want it both ways.

That January 6th outcome and no action taken will historically be remembered as Chamberlain attempting to sate Adolf.

“concerning”
“Questionable”
“Debatable”
“Some have described”
The euphemisms for illegal, violent, deadly, thieving, criminal, murderous, bigoted, nepotistic and lying need to stop.

More moderated words to fight extremism. The obama presidency, ironically, was the fulcrum on which the country continued into extremism by Obama wasting 8 years of energy and time–including 2 years of supermajority in the senate–instead of responding to the increasing threat of the tea party and normalized extremist right wing positions and policy with matching progressive policy delivered. ACA was the only significant accomplishment and it was watered down and written by insurers, which meant it didn’t fix affordability so made it easy to demonize as failed.
We kept Guantanamo open, took years to get out of Afghanistan, didn’t roll back the fascist surveillance state put into effect by The Patriot Act, didn’t move against monopolies, didn’t raise the fucking minimum wage…
Obama’s moderation with the true chance to set a different course was what helps trump and extremists after that. His naivete is as much to blame as anything for current state.

When you’ve either painted or allowed yourself to be painted yourself into a corner of powerlessness. Better to lean into letter writing, strongly-worded condemnations and “calls for” the thing you should have prevented in the first place, than actually doing something.

Well the world is waiting for the condemnation and outpouring of support from all those rabid free speech and “over my dead body” 2nd amendment right wingers to step forward…
Curiously quiet now? So it’s only an amendment that you want to protect your team and that’s when it matters? Ahh, then you don’t support the constitution nor this country.
X factor.
Also, who wants to alpha or beta test products? I’ll take the finished iterations, thank you.

The majority of their employees are in warehouses. They have more than 1 million employees. Most people don’t have options, even white collar workers are outmatched in the employment relationship when they depend on income to survive month to month. Few are those who have the relativve luxury of employer political alignmnet.
People can barely feed themselves. The federal minimum wage hasn’t gone up in 19 fucking years. Think about the implications of that in a high inflation environment. That is work for no pay essentially.

Microsoft testified they have no way to prevent the US government from accessing European data that should be protected by gdpr if requested/subpoenaed by the US government.
Expect the same from Amazon.

Who didn’t need this in their life? I’m so glad the CFPB has also been disemboweled.

Got it. I’m hallucinating about corks and hearses. You’re at a funeral for a vintner.

Not really the merger of corporate and state power in fascism buT what I noticed was the similarity in times with the fundamental decision between authoritarian rule and democracy and the crossroads Rome was taking going the other direction and how the US seems to be retreating from.
