At the dawn of the internet forums were anonymous on purpose and people were told never to reveal their identity. The concept of “doxxing” came about in this time to describe piecing together info that people revealed by accident to find their identity and break their expectation of anonymity.
Now the internet is mostly not anonymous, except for forums like this. Society hadn’t reconciled these things to any real degree.
Doxxing as a bad thing was never really a practice to be avoided in the journalistic space. They had (in theory) their owns standards around revealing identities.
So now everyone’s expectations are mixed up and nobody even knows what “doxxing” means. Basically just revealing an identity in any context.

That’s legendary spawn for a fox.
