  • The shutdown is likely to have minimal impact on pay for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and funding for their enforcement operations, since both agencies received an infusion of cash from Congress last summer. During the government shutdown last fall, officers and agents conducting arrests continued to do so and also continued to be paid.

According to DHS’ contingency plan, last updated in September, 22,862 agency workers not in ICE or CBP could be furloughed, meaning they would not work and would not be paid until the end of the shutdown. Other workers may be instructed to continue working but without pay, and there could be pauses to other programs.

I was wondering what happens to people that are currently being held, during a shutdown. The conditions are beyond inhumane while they’re staffid, and then a shutdown happens and they get neglected even more.

It doesn’t sound like the shutdown will affect ICE/CPB’s ongoing assault, probably just going to make them far more aggressive toward innocent people during the shutdown.

  • I’ve always considered sciences like psychology to be more susceptible to the reproducibility crisis. It seems if someone decides to pursue a career in academia the criteria becomes publishing, and well publish or perish as is goes.

I think some researchers areocing towards things like prerigistering hypothesis and open data+publishing source code for calculations and using that as references in there paper so it can be updated afterwards.

They’re have definitely been a lot of papers where results were later determined to be wrong but is still referenced because well you can’t update a paper from the 1970s.

This is hearsay from friends I’ve never done any serious research or published in journals. As a side note I do enjoy reading taking a scroll through https://retractionwatch.com/

Tax exempt status for religions applies to federal income tax. Sales tax is per state and state taxes vary between states.

I’m not a tax account or attorney, but maybe if they keep the receipts they can file there taxes and report it and maybe get the money back.

Since taxes are filed every year is this the first year they’ve been a pastor or whatever and doesn’t know? If it is their first year and they’re complaining about taxes on apps and phones or whatever, then it sounds like theyre kind of trashy to be honest.

  • I didnt know this existed but I’m not surprised, I’m sure tons of them have a Noah complex.

I went to church while I was growing up, and learned that Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old.

Carbon dating of dinosaur fossils show they are millions of years old.

The response when I asked about this was that the dinosaurs died because they couldn’t fit on the ark.

Every once in awhile the pastor liked to do a sermon or whatever trying to disprove some scientific idea. They wouldn’t argue logic though, they would just pick and choose wording in an article…because that is all they know picking and choosing words in a book so confirm to their worldview.

  • No, having children upload facial images to verify there age??? In the age of AI and deep fakes, or I don’t know selling that data to other entries with far more nefarious purposes.

This dude doesn’t care about kids, he sent a cease and desist to someone who actually was doing something and caught six predators on the platform.

He also said Roblox could be a dating platform which is a red flag since they probably know there platform attracts child predators.

If that wasn’t enough of reason he donated $2.5M to the White House Ballroom.
