  • The hilarious thing is that the American voter is supposed to be thinking of themselves when he says “we”. I would kinda understand the logic of continuing the forever war as a voter if everyone got a fat check once we ended the Iraq war. At least then I could understand that it is pure greed driving people to vote for war mongers.

In the end “we” is a small group of oil barons who made billions while footing the multi trillion bill to the tax payer. Unfortunately this just means that the average voter is greedy, but to stupid to actually benefit from their own avarice.

  • Mainly because it suits the propaganda purposes of western nations, but also because it is such a modern topic that is still in living memory. Give ww2 another hundred years and it wont likely be the cultural touch stone it is today.

Plus, most Western nations were actually involved in the European front of ww2 to a large degree. Ask most people about the Pacific front and the crimes committed by the Japanese empire and you won’t get the same responses.

  • Yeah… Winston Churchill’s initiatives killed plenty of Europeans. The main reason Hitler is demonized is because he lost the war, that’s how history works.

And to be fair the main reason why Rhoades and especially Leopold aren’t on the same level as Hitler is because most people don’t really study history. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone claim Leopold was a good dude, he was ostracized in his own lifetime once his crimes were made public.

  • Lol, there are several comments on this post specifically talking about castration. Simply highlighting one aspect of the paradigm does not mean you condone the other, nor does it mean people are ignoring it.

Sexual violence against women is spoken more about because it is much more common than with men. One out of five women are victims or rape or rape attempts, comparatively only one out of thirty-one men have experienced the same. The same goes for cattle, as the vast majority of cattle are females.

Simply stating that fact does not mean people do not care about sexual violence towards men, nor would someone who cares about the suffering of animals condone the morality of the practices in the meat industry when it comes to male cows.

  • I would say that’s an example of perfect being the enemy of good. If someone is making a conscious effort to moderate their consumption of meat then how can that be a bad thing when compared to the vast majority of people who make no effort at all?

Any amount of effort is better than not trying at all. Plus, is wager that the majority of people transition into vegetarianism/veganism, and this may be the first step of that journey. Why would anyone be critical of these people when there are people whose main caloric intake is meat?

  • Also, wouldn’t Deng be considered something of a traitor under the current regime?

No, that’s mainly how he’s viewed by your more orthodox communist outside of China. In China he’s mostly known as the architect of the modern Chinese economy. There is some nuanced criticism about things like the rise of inequality, but he’s still largely celebrated. Xi gave the ceremonial speech in 2024 celebrating his 120th birthday anniversary.
