politics @lemmy.world•Trump drops Easter Sunday f-bomb in new threat to Iran
4·8 days agoHis foreign policies were decent. His domestic policies were incredible, especially in the first half of his term. Especially considering he had COVID and its recession to recover from at the same time. If he had been better at messaging to make sure everybody knew what he was getting done and how good it was for everybody, I’m not sure we’d be in this current series of messes at all right now, or ever again if the hamberders keep flowing.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Iran attacks Oracle as retribution for sacked employees
6·9 days agoI miss planned shows with a satisfying ending in mind from the start. Too many shows overstay their welcome just because it keeps making a little money. Go out strong. Now I’m not saying that it would’ve been perfect, but what would’ve been wrong with making that cold war, imminent threat of nuclear annihilation plotline lead up to the series finale like 50 years ago? The current plotline is really just a Reagan plotline reboot with some tweaks, and it was already boring and stupid the first time. What’s that, trump is firing people again? The “you’re fired” guy is firing people again. Fucking snore.

17·11 days agoI don’t disagree, but also I remember when the SCOTUS handed the 2000 election to Bush and ordered Florida (incidentally governed by George’s brother Jeb Bush at the time) to halt the recount. They’ve been stealing power for a while now.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump signs executive order limiting mail-in voting ahead of 2026 U.S. elections
3·13 days agoPrimaries and referendums are happening right the fuck now though. I just voted by mail here in VA regarding the temporary redistricting thing. He might be trying to throw a wrench in any blue redistricting that’s in response to Texas and whatever other red gerrymandering is happening.
America isn’t even teetering on the precipice anymore. We’re tumbling down a jagged cliffside, and 1/3 thinks that it’s a good thing actually, 1/3 says holy fuck we need to curl up in a ball and try to survive, and the last 1/3 has been convinced by the first third that both sides are the same and also there’s nothing they can do and also did you hear what Jennifer Lawrence said about that thing you mildly care about but will pretend to care deeply about when you hear how she blasted it?
America’s day in the sun is done and dusted. We’re irrelevant. We were able to bluff relevance for the past few decades, but the facade has fallen. We’re not militarily impressive. We don’t do anything. Korea won, then Vietnam won, then the terrorists won, and now China has won. The best we can hope for at this point is avoiding total collapse.

politics @lemmy.world•Texas Railroad Commission Candidates Bo French calls for deportation of 100 million people
5·13 days ago“First they came for… Well pretty much everybody, really. But we were all either at work or exhausted from work, and web 2.0 corporate algorithms carved up our community into tiny, opposed slices who would never coalesce into one unified front, so they were just able to cast a wide net. So uhh, yeah, I guess it can happen here, huh?”

politics @lemmy.world•Trump achieves lowest approval rating of political career in blistering new poll: report
16·14 days agoBo French said at CPAC the other day that he wants 100 million people deported. That’s about 33% of the country. I found the 100 million that Bo could flag for deportation.
Suddenly trump supporters might understand that deporting 100 million people is an absurd number once it’s clear to them that that’s every trump supporter.
The reality is that about 70% of America is white. It suddenly becomes clear that “deport 100 million people” really means “deport all non-whites”. So yes, if you support such a policy and the president running it, you are, in fact, racist as fuck. On top of, as you pointed out, in support of a pedophile.
A fatal heart attack at 29 is pretty fucking wild. How does that even happen? Daily bacon, 3+ cups of coffee per day, heavy smoking, too much fox news, and morbidly obese?
Yep. And that’s the same idea behind every democratic election being the most important one to participate in. Democracy is not one and done. Democracy and equity are a daily, active, exhausting fight to keep selfish assholes from sneaking their way into power and wrecking everything just to serve themselves. It’s a Sisyphusian trudge, but it’s a small price to pay compared to the consequences of negligence.

Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says ‘I think we’ve achieved AGI’English
31·21 days agoExactly. CEO is maybe the easiest job for an AI to take over, so an AGI is possibly the most perfect candidate for that role.
Put up or shut up, tech bro CEOs. Replace yourself if it’s so fucking amazing.
Because lobsters or something.
Really it has more to do with it just being easier to assign roles than to expect everybody to be good and knowledgeable about everything. Larry makes clothes, Brenda farms, I cook, and Tiffany makes decisions about what stuff needs to be done in addition to our general roles. It doesn’t necessarily require that Tiffany be “above” the rest of us, but if we manage tasks and she manages us, that’s just what the org chart looks like. If everybody were consistently handling everything they needed to do, then Tiffany would not be needed. Tiffany doesn’t want to have to do things like farm, but she also doesn’t want to do a lot of managing; she wants to loaf around while having her position feel justified.
So she comes up with focus areas and team building exercises and now Larry will use cornhusks to make everybody shoes in addition to the clothes he’s already making. Which means Brenda will now be farming corn in addition to everything else she was farming. And now I need to find a way to implement corn into the cooking, but also make sure it’s nutritious enough for the kids, warriors, hunters, etc. They all need to learn how to use and maintain the new shoes. Teaching that will be Larry’s job since he designed and made the damn things, and when people don’t like this change, Larry catches all the heat. When he tells everybody that it was Tiffany’s decision, 1/3 of people redirect their frustration at her, and another 1/3 just stop caring and trudge through whatever happens as it happens. Tiffany doesn’t even really like corn, but she’s in too deep now; she’s getting a lot of attention and people are wondering whether she has any business being in charge of these decisions at all.
So she bombs Iran as a distraction and tries to rally everybody back into uniting against a common threat.

American here. I use 24h time, vastly favor roundabouts over traffic lights, and I would rather poop at home with my bidet attachment than get paid to poop at work. I’m not exactly your average American, but there are probably millions of us. The world mostly hears the loud dipshits because they are loud and their thoughts are dipshit enough that people who hear them feel the need to tell somebody about what a stupid dipshit take they heard from some loud dipshit.
