This is just not true… Tuna fish is the stuff in a can. Tuna filet is a filet of tuna. Tuna is the live or freshly caught fish from the ocean. Anything not actually made of tuna is imitation tuna or tuna flavored or artificial tuna.

Games@lemmy.world•Young gamers in Japan may not be forming the same attachment to Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest because modern dev cycles are as long as their childhood, users theorize - AUTOMATON WESTEnglish
2·9 hours agoBut also, what’s wrong with having any of those things? I’d argue it’s better to have those things with less developer crunch. We don’t need children to form “attachments” to video game franchises. That just breeds loyalty to corporations. We need games that are developed with love and care by developers who treat their employees and customers humanely. Whatever that looks like, we want that.

I think this is more likely patent law which is not something that has ever stopped Chinese manufacturing from producing cheaper alternatives to the same concept.

1·19 days agoDo you think an attractive woman who has been raped multiple times should simply know better? Is she asking for it if she wears slightly more revealing clothing? How many times does she need to be sexually abused before it’s her fault? How much responsibility does she have for her own abuse?

7·20 days agoNo? Why wouldn’t they know? Lots of ways to track that data. Google and apple both keep that data for statistics and app popularity tracking.
They only want big government when the big government lets them do what they wanted to do in the first place. It’s all about small local government when the big government regulates your oil and your money and your hated of people that look and act and speak differently to you. They’re fine with a big government that lets them be hateful and greedy and destroy the planet for financial gain.
I’m sorry but, the 80s were more than a couple of decades ago. 1986 was 40 years ago.
Also 20 years ago this was still an issue. Plasma screen TVs were becoming accessible to consumers and surround sound was taking off in the home video space. TV was mixed for surround cinematic but not everyone had a surround setup yet. They had to write laws that said the tv commercials couldn’t be louder than the main content of the channel (though these laws were largely unenforced).

2·1 month agoThat’s what the last bit of my comment was about. Compression would need significant improvement before it were usable for most things people use the internet for.

20·1 month agoFor anyone reading this currently, it appears that regulation bans any form of encryption over HAM radio broadcasts. So I guess that’s one reason this won’t work.

Technology@lemmy.world•What if the Internet Goes Down? - 15 Jan, 7PM CETEnglish
351·1 month agoThis tech would be great if we had high power nodes all across the globe. But we do not. Maybe a cool idea could be encrypted data over FM radio. The radio stations already exist and are a dying business. Nonprofits could buy up radio stations and rebroadcast data broadly and only those with the encryption keys could decrypt. Cut the ISP out entirely. Like the difference between a local call and a long distance call.
Meshtastic communication would prioritize local hops where they are available and then where there are spans of area without nodes, they could hop across radio broadcasts.
Primary issue would be speed. Next to no bandwidth on a signal like that. Kbps not Mbps. Perhaps an incentive for much better compression as well.
Jyek@sh.itjust.workstoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Current state of American - Canadian relations
211·1 month agoWe don’t actually know if that’s true. Only 74% of the voting age population of the US was registered to vote in 2024. Only 65% of Americans voted on this election cycle and the popular vote was very close. We also know that Trump’s approval ratings have absolutely tanked in his first year coming in at -16 points where as when he started, he sat pretty at +16. He has lost 32% of his initial approval in this country. I would say, it is quite likely, many if not the majority of Americans are well and truly, over this man’s shit, even those who voted for him previously.

Left-hand side is like saying your left, not mine. You could also say on your left but then again, English has lots of ways to say lots of things.
