“Man rests from one labor by doing another.” That also works for managing chronic pain, as I’ve discovered…

  • This is a fascinating subject to me, as “dominance hierarchy” has been overly plain to me since the evidence we have of early civilisation models, but also much more recently, in terms of dear Jane’s observations of Gombe chimps, plus dear Robert’s (Sapolski) observations upon baboons.

Now whether that same type of hierarchy structure is the same when it comes to other tribal / social animals such as Grey Wolves and doggos seems a fascinating thing to observe, whether or not the whole ‘Alpha-Male’ thing is complete nonsense, or not. (with no apologies whatsoever to utter wankers, such as Andrew Tate)

Conclusion? Please, let’s never forget that we humans are also monkeys by definition. (Great Apes < Apes < Monkeys < Primates)

And we’re the most truly dangerous of all monkeys, n’est pas? :S

  • Seems like every fluffing thing’s more expensive now, but it used to be that the local store had good prices on 'chokes, here and there. Now I’m curious to see what prices will be like in the coming harvest season. They’re typically grown in California (I think), but from the little research I did, it doesn’t seem like the rest of the country should have that much variance in price, based on shipping. Regardless, I’m going to try grilling some hearts, next opportunity…

  • I sometimes prepare artichokes from whole. Usually by throwing in a stew and letting them cook that way. Other times by steaming in a wok. Or occasionally by baking.

I suppose the baked version of the hearts would be best to use for grilling, but I’m not sure. Hard to believe they’d be better than store-bought smoked, though. *shrug*

  • …having strong principles and actually sticking to them might be a common theme among the userbase here.

That’s what I’ve traditionally thought, but I’ve found there’s less of it that sentiment than I’d hoped for. A lot more people willing to be ‘content consumers’ or opinion-spewers without doing much to help make the FV work than I’d imagined. That said, some of that’s surely just whining on my part as someone who chronically wishes that more communities (including mine) received more help & participation, as well as someone on the ‘snappish-side’ due to constant pain. Also, not everyone here necessarily came from Reddit, or has any special respect for the Fediverse.
