In that case the user has made a choice is the good thing. They’ve seen what options are there and decided Windows fits their needs best. That’s better in my mind than a world where everyone accepts the OS that comes preinstalled on their machine as permanent and doesn’t consider alternatives.

37·17 days agoIt seems like someone who is trying really hard to convince himself that he’s cool. “Oh yeah, a cool guy would go to the wildest party!” And when validated with attention via Tesla, SpaceX, and internet antics, he just started turning up the volume on the “edgy teen” knob. So he thinks he’s the smartest, coolest guy in every room, who everyone loves. And he’s, well, Elon Musk.
Haha 420 69 guys. That’s right, I know about marijuana and sex!

Everyone knows they only got through Moneybags Medical School because of their parent Dr. Moneybags Senior… It’s nepotism all the way! And they got a degree in cosmetic nephrology - what makes them qualified to study potato PCs?
Calm down Dr. Moneybags - look how many RAM chips are on that DIMM… No need to flex your wealth!

I’d recommend using “password” as your password and “root” for the username. Attackers have a lot of stuff going on! Don’t make their job all complicated, make it easy to remember.
Older operating systems like a really old Linux distro or Windows XP are the best, since their performance requirements are a lot lower, giving better overhead for the crypto miners that will be installed. Modern OSs waste resources on security features and such.

News@lemmy.world•Toyota Owner Didn’t Know His Car Was Talking To Insurers Until He Saw His RatesEnglish
6·26 days agoI think this has been going on for quite a while. my 2010 Toyota I believe has a mobile data unit, but only has 3G and is thus forever unable to phone home. With a new car, you could just remove the mobile data module and not allow it a WiFi connection or anything, then it has no way to report to Toyota even if it wants to.

261·1 month agoI am sure there was already something going on, but the sycophantic nature of AI chatbots means they are very effective at preying on mental illness.
You can see how someone with schizophrenia, OCD, etc. might get into a very unhealthy state with them. Or the lonely people being taken in by creepy “AI girlfriend” apps.
Again, not that there aren’t undeying issues, but in the race for more AI everything it’s clear that these companies don’t give a shit who gets chewed up and destroyed on the way. And in the US, AI chatbots are now the fastest way someone can feel like they’re being listened to and understood by a therapist. And, given the political situation, I won’t be at all surprised if ChatGPT is approved as a therapist. They’ve already got AI prescription writing in Utah.

1·1 month ago6dof industrial robot arm that has been around forever and can do pretty much anything very, very repeatably:

When air is warm, it rises. As the air attaches to the blades, the air is tricked into accepting a new definition of “up” which rotates with the blades, endlessly propelling them.
As that air cools, warmer air is drawn in and entrapped, continuing the cycle.
