Just be sure to guard against yourself against surveillance and tracking.
Also, yes, No Kings won’t change anything at the national level. It can have some good at the local level though, which is the only sphere where you or I have any power anyway. Hell, my city banned ICE from being able to lease or zone facilities for the next five years. Mine is also one of the few cities that had the balls to imprison a killer cop, though our Republican governor pardoned him a year and a half into his sentence.
I ran a D&D session last night about a constipated dragon and a gnomish boy band.
That was pretty fun for April Fools.

9·23 hours agoShe’s probably angry that she can’t see that number in their bank account, because that’s all the 1% care about at the end of the day.
Doesn’t even matter that they won’t live to spend it all. The number is essential to their core being.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Five Guys CEO says he gave a $1.5m bonus to his workers so he wouldn’t get shot in the back
27·1 day agoI say, good.
The tremendous and insatiable greed of American business leaders has necessitated making them afraid for their own asses, and that’s especially true in the health care sphere, but no less true elsewhere. It sounds like this motherfucker made a decision that severely negatively impacted franchisees and employees, and it shouldn’t take fear of a bullet to get him to adequately pay his workers for making their lives hell during the company’s 40-year promotion.
Also, Five Guys is a billion-dollar company. $1.5 million is nothing, and it should be an afterthought if that amount will make a material difference in their workers’ lives. (But of course, we know that these bastards will fight over literal pennies if it means getting more undeserved value for a person’s labor.)
None of that matters if you can’t afford to eat, and Democrats failed to express any kind of care whatsoever about food staples becoming cost-prohibitive, so you have tens of millions (if not hundreds) being reminded every time they open their refrigerator that Dems don’t care if they starve. They even sent Barack Obama to call young black men chauvinists for the crime of wanting an affordable cost of living.
But I’m glad that you apparently are someone who can afford it.

113·1 day agoHow would that work, exactly?
You pull all of his committee assignments and neuter his value to lobbyists. If all he has is his vote on the legislation that hits the floor, he can’t do much and it will hurt him both financially and politically, because if you don’t have value to lobbyists they won’t send you “gifts”.
You attack him personally and threaten his business or personal connections. For example, if Dems wanted to pull Manchin in line, for example, they could have sent the DoJ after his daughter for price gouging consumers on pharmaceuticals.
And yes, while it doesn’t matter now, you make sure he knows he’ll be primaried out and smeared like yesterday’s dog shit. Character assassination is effective and could bring someone in line, especially when they’re enthusiastically supporting genocide and Israel’s popularity is in the shitter.
That’s how.
They’ve never been powerless. They’re just complicit.

Look at how Donald has dealt with people who get out of line. Democrats aren’t powerless. The villain’s part of their party strategy.

133·1 day agoThere’s always a rotating villain.
Used to be Dianne Feinstein. Then it was Joe Manchin. Then it was that Sinema bitch. Now it’s Fetterman and Schumer.
And people just kind of ignore the pattern and pretend it isn’t a party-wide PR strategy.

1411·1 day agoI don’t know that I agree.
The only difference I see here is that, under Democrats, it’s primarily ICE and the cops doing the Nazi things and not CBP, and you’ll recall that after George Floyd was killed Biden used his next SOTU to publicly call for more police militarization.
Also, go look up who first appointed Tom Homan, for a very good example.

5813·2 days agoCorrection: They SAY they want health care and education, get elected, and then spend their political capital making most people poorer, doing fascism, and genociding.
Or, put a more concise way, that people can’t afford to miss a day if work in order to vote, and increasingly don’t see any point because their lives get worse no matter who we elect.

And affordability = socialism to Democratic partisans.
You should be posting this in ‘confidently incorrect’.

It’s a national corporation, so that would depend on the state and city, but since 2/3 of the US states adhere to the federal minimum wage as their standard, chances are pretty good that Five Guys (along with every national corporation) are robbing people of their labor and expecting the welfare system to make up the difference.
