Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone here think smartphones and tech like that kinda peaked in 2019 arnd that time?
9·2 months agoThe mid 2010s. I miss my old LG G5, the ability to customize the hardware with the USB c port and hesdphone jack being a simple replacement was a gamechanger for me. The LG G6 was a downgrade from nearly all the features of it’s papa besides the better internal chip and camera but you still lost all manual control button use with the upgrade sicne that was an attachment mod as well as the DAC.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the dumbest/silliest reason you got in trouble for in school?
2·2 months agoSelf defense in middle school. I was awkward for at least 2 years due to some life events (bipolar mom that kicked me out of not being g perfect in school, forced to move with dad that did not know how to psrent and didn’t finish middle school himself) Great in class but it took a while to start interacting with all the new people I’m meeting. Ended up leading to a few fights from some of them associated with a gang and police were involved since it was “zero tolerance” never got charged since the teachers would request the footage so I wouldn’t get charged for the mess but it was stressful. High school was with the same kids, at least half of them didn’t graduate

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some non-mainstream foods or drinks from your culture that social media isn't aware of and hasn't ruined?
3·2 months agoAs the pre-made version yes. It’s available as the concentrate in glass jars, so you can mix it with your own seltzer as more of a “fresh” carbonated soda

8·2 months agoAyy a local that’s here on Lemmy gotta love it. Was actually going to mention Boost! from south Jersey. I’ve seen it randomly in store while I was down in Florida in a neighborhood nearby that was full of the retired Jersey shore residents that come down for the winter. Its not something I’d personally drink but know a good amount of people that love it. Probably never took off since the name is the exact same as the protein drink while being a complete opposite lol
For those unaware it’s an OG soda from over 100 years ago. Soda pharmacies and diners were THE hang out spots in rural South Jersey back then and the roots still remain:

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Losing friends to the endless fantasy of AI/social media slop. Under 30s, are you dealing with the same and if so what worked for you to help socialize again?
1·3 months agoThanks for the advice. I’m working on the new friends for sure, I just hate seeing what this is doing to friends of close to 20 years. They enjoy the hangouts everytime but as another person was saying in their comment, they’re pretty much in an addiction, which I do have to view it as. Two of those friends have kids now, oldest being 5 and it rubs off on them with the iPads so part of why it’s still worth attempting to help in my eyes, they arent bad, just I guess dopamine gullible. I know I can only do so much on my end

Apparently this has been going on for a while but The Verge started sounding the alarm 3 months ago. They know most people won’t read more than a couple sentences past a headline if they even open the article at all. Confirmation bias is about to go wild
