I still can’t get used to her eyes, which makes her a perfect casting.

You sir, are suggesting that Star Wars makes logical hard-sci-fi sense which it has not. Please refer to first minute of movie where you can hear engines and laser fire.
Like the fact that no matter what, the cables behind your monitor are always going to be tangled.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Travelling on a flying carpet must be terrifying
3·18 days agoIn ‘Rise of Endymion’, the ‘Magic Carpet’ creates a kind of force field that keeps its occupants in, and the wind out. But you can still slam and splatter into lots of bits if you hit a rock wall. The force field isn’t that powerful.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Value and 'likes' of a post are different things.
1·23 days agoYou can downvote a post on Lemmy but you’re still looking at it, maybe examining it, thinking, is this post relevant to others?
So not having an algorithm to remove it from your life completely makes you less of a neuron-firing drone and more a consciously thinking person.

3·27 days agoI didn’t know what to say but you nabbed it.
Also reminds me of the motor effect: electromagnetism causing motion. Perhaps that’s why the name ‘electric motor’ became so dominant…

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•You board a train, board a bus, and board a ship, but you don't board a car
1·28 days agoI’m guessing because it’s a process in which you need to show a valid ticket of travel (or buy it) while ‘boarding’. Like onboarding or something.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•In a few years, the western liberals who claim to want a world led by countries outside the west are gonna get what they wished for, and realise that means western liberal values lose
2·1 month agoHas anyone used a bidet? Someone in this thread got me curious. Why are they so highly rated?

21·1 month agoI was going to say are you sure you mistyped bidets instead of something else, and then you really rounded it off with bidets.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"A hill I'm willing to die on" is a weird phrase for what it means.
18·1 month agoQuite a few idioms like ‘You dodged a bullet’ or ‘I’m laying low.’ have originated from military in general.

5·1 month agoThat was one of the best I’ve ever read, made me laugh out loud ‘swamps of dagobah’ bahahaha.
Looking at the reviews about assets being accessible…yes sir, that is what business based vpns are for.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•You always have to analyse a person's internet post about themselves or their life the same way you read a book written with an unreliable narrator
6·2 months agoReminds me of AITA? (am I the asshole?) posts that either felt incredible or just posted as ragebait for farming karma.

Real space battles are probably like split-second flypasts repeated until one spacecraft is destroyed. The likelihood of both spacecraft voluntarily keeping the speed between them below 100m/s is very low.
