I’ve never been big into eBird but I love iNaturalist, which sometimes gets similar critiques. Personally, as an ecologist I think anything that increases people’s attention to biodiversity is a good thing. If some people get too drawn into the gamified aspect of it, that’s their problem
Having a hard time understanding the eBird hate. Is it just plain gatekeeping or is there some environmental aspect I’m not considering?
