It gets my goat that people think it’s a good option. There are plenty of articles explaining some of the many issues with it, but a few are:
- It’s run by anti-LGBTQ+ crypto bros.
- It has ads right out of the box.
- It collected donations towards people who never signed up for them - then held them to ransom in exchange for the kind of information you should never share on the Internet.
- They’re a for-profit advertising company. “Privacy-centric” my elbow.

I don’t disagree with you. It is worth pointing out though that Brendan Eich, the founder of the Brave Browser, is also the cofounder of The Mozilla Foundation, and the creator of the JavaScript Programming language.
So if you really want to boycott the homophobe, boycott Brave, Firefox, all Firefox forks, and JavaScript.
One is a for profit ad company controlled by a homophobe. The other is a non-profit foundation that isn’t… there’s a pretty big difference here.
Fuck Brendan Eich, but he’s not been involved with Mozilla for 12 years, and JavaScript is open-source. There’s no reason to boycott either because of Eich.
Whataboutism turned up to 11, nice
I have no particular axe to grind in this matter but I’m pretty sure there’s no equivalence and it’s more nuanced than that.
For a start, Eich don’t see a penny from Moz or JS
He sees millions of dollars from Brave
Which of these projects is he still in control of, and still making money off of?
I think he’s pointing out the fact that usually when someone that people disagree with for X or Y reason has touched, created or participated in anything, people tend to demote all of those things, just because this person was involved in it. It’s a stupid thing to do, but some people do it.
Thankfully this is not the case because we are criticizing brave browser the project he is an active member of. oh and thiel because he is an investor.
Weird flex.
Bill gates was also the"inventor" of Windows and he fucked little kids on an island.
