And these amateurs are incredibly problematic.

Their “work” often results in evidence that is not admissible, the confrontation itself often is done in a way that allows the paedos to counter-sue and get away with things, AND on a number of occasions these groups have harassed innocent bystanders that happened to bear a passing resemblance to the paedo they wanted to catch.

“Let’s go online and catch some paedos” sounds good and all, and I’m all for protecting children, going on vigilante paedo hunts isn’t the answer. and it quickly turns non-fun when you realise that by baiting and confronting a paedo, you have:

    • not helped catching or exposing them
    • now that you confronted them, they’ll up their game and be harder to catch next time
    • anything you could do to a paedo that one considers fun, the law considers illegal (even though there are software to permanently modify PDF files…)
    • anything you did is most likely useless to the police

It was a joke. I was implying that to some extent it’s acceptable to permanently modify (say, by removing the offending body parts) PDF files (peadophiles). Which is obviously a joke, don’t go around cutting off the cojones of suspected paedos because you WILL get in trouble.
