You see, recently someone posted a meme that was kinda playing off silly tropes about different leftist groups. What makes this a funny thing is that it would be extremely foolish to lump people together under such broad categories, so it’s kind of a wink wink nudge nudge absurd concept to play with, the same way you might playfully tease a friend.
Anyways, the trope that was being referred to was “anarchists don’t read” and as an anarchist I find that pretty funny becuse lol I don’t. But I also know it’s not serious and most anarchists I know actually read a lot? It’s a playful exaggeration of the differences between anarchists and communists.
You see, communists schools of thought tend to be more well known than anarchist schools of thought and people write about them A LOT. So, to have a good understanding of the different schools, you may need to read all sorts of stuff. Unless you are in a specifically anarchist space, it’s not common to be hyper specific about what flavor of anarchy you’re into. So it’s seen as a lot more simplistic, with less reading required.
Anyways, that meme got a lot of comments.To be honest I couldn’t tell if they were playing along or if people were being super serious in a meme community which is probably not good for their health tbh. I thought it might be funny to lean into that a bit and make light of the serious response.
My meme plays into the idea that communists are too serious and unfunny. Obviously, I don’t think that’s true about everyone and it’s probably that Lemmy users don’t look at the context of the community they are replying in. Trust me, it happens all the time in vegan communities when people get really angry when their carnist comments get deleted!
