CNN employees reacted with alarm after Netflix abruptly pulled out of the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery, effectively clearing the way for a takeover of the 24/7 cable channel by Paramount Skydance, the media giant run by technology heir David Ellison.
Seven current CNN employees who spoke to NBC News on Thursday night, hours after Netflix announced it would not try to match Paramount’s bid for WBD, expressed a combination of fear and concern. They described the mood inside the company as “shaken” and” depressing.”
I can only hope they leak the details of the changes when it starts happening so everyone can know.
They need to start a CBC United States Service and Broadcast from Canada, mirroring the BBC German Service during the Nazi years in Germany.
This might be the last straw for a lot of them…
But they’re all carrying a shit ton on their backs by now if they still work at CNN. If they had resigned with everyone for any of the last ethical meltdowns at the company we might have seen change.
They just kept it alive long enough for even more right leaning people to be hired and trained to do their own jobs.
We need to be more like the French where people strike and riot because their college roommate’s second cousin may be slightly inconvenienced. With the understanding it works both ways.
If everyone waits till their personal line, there’s never a critical mass.
