Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is the herd mentality so common on Lemmy?
141·18 days agoLooking at your post history, I’m just seeing that the down votes look average to me.
If that’s what you’re talking about, I wouldn’t take down votes personally.
Often what people are down voting is bad news, not necessarily fake news or something they disagree with.
If that’s not what you’re talking about, then never mind.
I am so sorry kids these days.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In your opinion, what is the best brand of cell phones in terms of quality and price today?
1·22 days agoMe too!
I went from a succession of Motorolas to a new Samsung.
The hardware is fast, but OMG it’s full of proprietary shit that is fighting with Android vanilla and FOSS apps that I’m trying to use instead. OneUI is a disaster of compatibility with some apps, including Voyager.

News@lemmy.world•Minute Maid is discontinuing frozen juices after 80 years
39·29 days agoThe whole frozen OJ industry was based out of Florida, which has suffered a 90% decline in production, thanks to citrus greening disease.
The US Federal Government, and government in general, is a huge set of institutions, governing everything from food production, bank regulation, environmental regulation, the military, disease control, education, and of course, immigration.
Evil people in office make the government do bad things, but at the same time, the good stuff like the regulating the environment, pollution, basic food quality, national parks, freeway design and repair, social security, weather forecasts, etc. tends to be taken for granted.
So when you say you hate the government, try to be more specific, and don’t forget the anonymous federal and other government employees working hard on the other stuff that helps your quality of life.
There should be an award for that poster alone!
It’s the “theatrical release” poster, according to the article.

5·1 month agoIt could be bots. Have you noticed google searches inserting “reddit (search term)” in your search suggestions?
Google’s crawlbots alone are constantly scanning your answers in reddit to feed their algorithm.
That’s just one search company, not including search rivals like MS/Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc.
Also AI bastards crawling all over reddit to feed their training databases.

Cooking @lemmy.world•These frozen soy sausages taste extremely bland when I prepare them. Anyone got ideas for how to properly do them?
8·1 month agoThat’s weird.
Usually meat substitutes are over-salted, and should at least taste salty if nothing else.
Try a different brand or a different product entirely.
There are plenty of vegetarian meat substitutes out there.
Otherwise, as others have said, you’re going to have to make up the lack of flavor with some kind of sauce.
Or just learn to enjoy how vegetarian food tastes different from meat products, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for your health.

Those “overpriced” products in your local stores?
You’re supporting your neighbors.
There’s also the cost to you of shipping, even if it’s hidden inside the payment for your Amazon Prime membership.
Although these days with the dominance of chain stores, some percentage is shipped out of the community.
Also, shopping locally reduces single use plastic shipping package pollution.
I haven’t shopped on Amazon for over a decade, and only buy something online if I truly can’t find it locally.
And then I prefer buying from the company’s own website, then eBay, then AliExpress, before I’ll even think of one click inside Amazon.

You really don’t know until you need something from them.
But even good people may not be able to help you if they’re not able to right that moment.
Finding good willing people seems to be more of a numbers game.
