Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This is crazy. Why don't you just take their car ?English
1·6 days agoCompletely agree. I live in central NY and public transit is so gutted it’s basically nonexistent. I think there’s a way to increase demand though…

If so, take away their license and plates. Bus pass or bike from now on.

62·13 days agoHonest question: there’s not that many of them to cover a substantial number of polling stations, are there? If memory serves, there like 16k agents.
Seems like the WH is on its bullshit again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's going on with the lemmy world and ML infighting
53·13 days agoStill coming up to speed on the terminology here, but labels aside, I would hope we can all agree on the fact that society should work for the people first. A society that works for corporations and the rich first (I’d argue that most developed nations show advanced stages of this, regardless of capitalist alignment) will decay internally, like a cancer. I think we’ve seen the global decline of society working for their members since the mid 1900’s.
This has resulted in a broad rightward swing in the US, and to a slightly lesser degree abroad. People feel like they’ve been taken advantage of. And they have been, but mostly by the very rich, and it’s getting exponentially worse by the day.
Argue nuance if you feel so inclined. But my point is: the more that we’re divided by these labels is to our detriment. And when I say “we”, I mean “not the ownership class.”
Do you work? Do you draft a paycheck anywhere on earth? Then you’re getting fucked, because those who don’t draft a paycheck to live basically don’t pay anything to partake in society. We pay for them. We truly live in a welfare state, but it’s not the poor that are the recipients but the rich.
Tankie or not. Western or Eastern. We’re all manipulated into serving the will of the powerful, and constantly at odds with one another when our plight is similar. We all don’t want to get fucked. But the more we’re divided, the easier it is to conquer us.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

News@lemmy.world•Escalating Threats to Midterm Elections, Bannon Says Trump Will ‘Have ICE Surround the Polls’

I’ve seen armed “guards” and my polling station before and it’s unsettling to say the least.

Elder millennial here.
…that just about sums it up. Well done.
A real gem. Take a look at “The Studio” on Apple TV. 10/10. I’ll probably rewatch and I never do that.
Hear hear!
This is a major step. The last time anything resembling a national strike happened in 1946. Every journey starts with a first step.
I know people want more, but don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good. This is a good thing! For the power of the people, for worker solidarity, to honor these poor murdered people…
We just need to build momentum.

News@lemmy.world•ICE says its officers can forcibly enter homes during immigration operations without judicial warrants: 2025 memo
1·26 days agoMe, looking up what fedposting is…lol. Ben Jordan did a great video on that or something similar. Quickly becoming my favorite YouTuber.
You make a good point; protest, write representatives, all good things. Vote in the midterms (assuming we have them).
All that said, it doesn’t make what I said untrue. Post 2nd amendment stuff if it’s cathartic, but think it through.
I’m shook by how powerless I feel and guns don’t help the situation. But that feeling of helplessness is a feature of the fascism playbook.

News@lemmy.world•ICE says its officers can forcibly enter homes during immigration operations without judicial warrants: 2025 memo
104·27 days agoAs a gun owner, I agree with this. Open fire on ICE…see how that goes. You won’t win. You might kill one, but they will CERTAINLY kill your back. Isn’t it odd that in the most armed county on earth, no ICE officers have been shot in the line of duty (check me there, but I’m not familiar with one)?
Seems like most people are focused on the gun thing here. You already said it; what civil solution do we have?

In not in favor of providing ID for anything. If a service requires it, I won’t use that service. Also, I can’t think of a verification system like this that hasn’t been bypassed or exploited, so it’s largely an exercise in futility.
However, a compelling argument is to use your phone’s biometrics to perform a challenge and verification. Basically, your device acts as your ID so sites never have it. I think this way better than all websites to keep a copy of the identity.
